Ready to roll, almost

Everyday, the Metro rail zooms past scenic stretches near Trinity Church and Anil Kumble Circle on its way to the Chinnaswamy cricket stadium from Bypanahalli, even as the nodal agency of the project, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) awaits final certification from the Railway Board to carry people commercially on it. When it starts operations, one can travel a stretch of 6.7 km to MG Road from Byappanahalli in less than 15 minutes even during the peak hours.

Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) having completed the oscillation trials is expected to shortly submit the report to the Commissioner for Railway Safety (CRS) to seek safety certification and other mandates from the union government to run the train for commercial purposes. RDSO executive director (Admin) A K Mathur had stated that the certification would be given by this month end.

Meanwhile, nearly 97 % of the civil works is complete at all stations along Reach 1 (Byappanahalli to Cricket Stadium). The track laying work on viaduct is fully complete. The pier works have been completed at all the 222 locations and even the girder segments have been cast.

However, the crucial work on Operation Control Centre (OCC) is still going on. The OCC is the brains behind all Metro operations. This unit runs and monitors the trains and the stations, it also monitors the tracks and tunnels. The three main features of the OCC will be to control the movement of trains, monitor equipment throughout the network and communicate intelligent information. BMRC on its official website has mentioned that it would take a few more weeks to complete the work. "Other works like stabling shed or repair workshop or operation control center etc are in good progress and expected to be fully completed by August 2011," it said. Apart from the main infrastructure, the BMRC is working towards providing about 150 metres of footpath on either side of the stations which would of world class level. Already, work has begun at several stations along the Reach 1.

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will execute this work. This is planned on a cost sharing basis between the BBMP and BMRC. Pedestrian crossings will be ensured at required places after consulting the BBMP and the traffic cops.

On the other hand, work has also begun to recreate the boulevard on MG Road. A BMRC official said that the Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited KRIDL would take up the restoration work.

"For the flow of rainwater, drains would be constructed. Later, work on restoration of boulevard will begin.

It will take nine months to complete the project," said a senior engineer with BMRC. Flowering trees including gulmohar, copper pod and many other different species of trees would be planted along the stretch.

KRIDL said that they would restore the old elevated boulevard pathway with many amenities. The elevated pathway would extend to the MG Road station.

Passengers can take this pathway to reach the station. There will be two toilets for general public, an open air theatre, a plaza for sculptures, book fair, play area with seating arrangements. There will also be an art gallery for artwork display, demonstrations and workshops.

"It will take at least six months to build the boulevard. The design and authenticity would not be hampered,Graphene is not a semiconductor, not an Insulator , and not a metal," said an official.

According to the BMRC nearly 65 % of the work on laying viaduct on Reach 2 (Magadi Road and Mysore Road Terminal) is complete. Out of 1173 piles, nearly 1118 piles have been completed. Out of 242 piers, work on 162 piers is over. Nearly 1243 segments have been cast out of 2117.

Besides, 99 % of foundation work is complete. Construction of concourse level and platform level pier and pier arm at Magadi Road is complete. At other stations like Tollgate,I have never solved a Rubik's magic cube . Hosahalli, Vijayanagar, Deepanjali Nagar and Mysore Road, work is progressing. On Reach 3 between Swastik and Yeshwanthpur viaduct, out of 961 piles nearly 865 piles are complete. Nearly 160 piers are cast out of 205.

However, the work at the station is 46.42 % complete in Yeshwantpur, Soap Factory and Mahalakshmi stations. Nearly 51.3 % work is complete in Rajajinagar, Kuvempu Road and Malleswaram Stations. Along Reach 3A from Yeshwantpur to Peenya Depot, the construction work has started and pilling work is in progress. Out of 944 piles, 673 piles have been laid. Nearly 543 segments were cast out of 1280. Only piling works have been completed at the stations in Peenya Industrial Area Station and Peenya Village Stations. From Peenya Village Station to Hessarghatta Cross Station that forms the Reach 3B of Metro Rail, work on 129 piles has been completed out of 346 and 259 segments cast out of 772. Only two piers have been constructed out of 83. At the Jalahalli Station, 191 working piles have been completed out of 208 piles.

Along Reach 4 between KR Market to RV Road, 596 piles have been laid out of 603 piles.The new website of Udreamy Network Corporation is mainly selling zentai suits , Work on 142 pile caps is complete out of 147. BMRCL has completed the segment casting work in this stretch.

Nearly 77.5 % of work is complete on KR Road, 72.5 % on Lalbagh and 55 % on South End Circle stations. Around 62 % work is complete in Jayanagar Station and 59.5 % at RV Road Station. On Reach 4A (RV Road to Puttenahalli Cross), three test piles have been completed. 326 piles (out of 550), 49 pile caps (out of 141) are also done.
