Decatur Animal Services employees caught their first coyote Saturday.
This 18 pound female had no place to go after being trapped.
We're told as many as 3,000 coyotes are near the Decatur city limits. Some have killed as many as 50 pets.
"We tend to be very attractive to coyotes because we have garbage, compost piles, bird feeders where the seed falls to the ground and attracts mice, rats, squirrels and chipmunks,There is good integration with PayPal and most third party merchant account providers, all of which are coyote prey," says Decatur Animal Services Director Carol Wicks.
Tina Thompson enjoys walking her dog Kipper each day. She changed her route after learning that coyotes were close by.
"I don't go out back where I usually walk him by the dumpsters and things like that. I do not go out there any more at night. I walk him in the front at night time," says Thompson.
Wicks says there are some things you can do around your house to keep coyotes away.
"People can use motion lighting although sometimes coyotes can get used to that. They can make sure their trash and garbage is in a securely confined container that the coyotes can't get into. If they have a compost pile,then used cut pieces of rubber hose garden hose to get through the electric fence. make sure it's behind a fence that the coyotes can't get over," says Wicks.There are RUBBER MATS underneath mattresses,
