Timloc finds the space to boost growth

NEW product developments and investment in updated manufacturing equipment is driving growth at building products firm Timloc as it more than doubles its storage space with a new warehouse.

Managing director Michael Leaf said developing new residential ventilation products would be key to the expansion of the Goole-based firm.

The company, which has both a manufacturing site and a warehousing site in the town, produces and distributes specialist building supplies,

Mr Leaf, who joined the company last July, said: “The business was outgrowing the existing warehouse, where it had been for six years. Sales have been growing year-on-year since 2009 and we have plans to substantially grow this year.”

Timloc produces around 300 products including pre-formed cavity trays, roof and wall ventilation products and loft access doors along with many other building components.

Its customers include major building merchants and housebuilders, including Jewson, Grafton and Persimmon.

“In the last 18 months there has been a shift from building flats to family homes, which has also helped.”

The company, which created five new manufacturing jobs last year, has seen an increase in demand for access panels for boilers ahead of new regulations by the Health and Safety Executive. As part of its growth plans, the company is also planning to invest in new automation equipment for its manufacturing site, although Mr Leaf declined to say how much it would spend.

“This year is going to be a promising year for us,” Mr Leaf said. “We are taking new products to market and now we have got a new warehouse to support our expansion plans.”

I think that's fair, and I'm not saying it as I pat myself on the back. I think the community notices it, too. I can't tell you the number of e-mails and Facebook messages I get with people saying, "Melissa, I feel like you work 24 hours a day. I see you everywhere." I don't mind it, I enjoy my job. The hours are tough, but I choose to work these hours.

“My mom (Amy Allen) informed me that Longview Community Ministries was moving. She is a board member. I appreciate all this ministry does for the community and was honored to be a part of helping. Mom referred me to Mrs. Donna Sharp who pitched me the project idea.”

The idea was for Keegan to remove the flooring in the new location, which is the former American Classifieds location on Second Street.

It turned out to be a much bigger job than the 10th-grader anticipated.

“Due to the nature of the classifieds company's work, the floor was raised in a room so that wires could be ran underneath,” Keegan said. “There are three doors that lead to this room from the office spaces adjacent to it. When LCM bought the space, the wires where no longer of any use. Therefore, the floor being raised wasn’t necessary any longer either. My project included removal of the actual tiles that made up the floor itself.”

His cool demeanor in explaining the work that was necessary did not reflect the level of anxiety his mother said she heard in his voice when he realized what was before him.

The couple couldn’t figure out what was wrong, so they rushed Grayson to the emergency room at the Midland hospital.
Yates asked her older son what might have happened and why Grayson was so upset.

“Dr. Golisky and the nurse that was helping us both came with us in the ambulance. (Grayson) went beet red and started choking in the ambulance,” she said, adding by the time Ritchie made it to Orillia behind the ambulance, the surgeon was already up, dressed and in the room with them. “We were shocked with how fast everybody was taking care of the situation.”

"I'd say half and half," Lucas Hager said. "I go to grandma's and Sharon's a lot, but as for her daughter and her kids, I haven't seen them in awhile. The last time I saw their boy, he was 12 and he's 14 now so it's been at least two years."

"There are ones who aren't in the flood area that have come to visit that normally wouldn't," Sharon said.

The Gerles have a unique business - they raise Nigerian Dwarf Goats and have since 2006.

"When I was back at home, I'd go through one of their jars a day," Lucas said. "It'd be on the breakfast cereal, a glass on the side and a glass with every meal. It's a sad day when it's time to go back to normal milk. You can tell the difference."

The extended family also got a taste of how things were done decades ago.

All four generations of the women in the family got together to use a wringer washer. After washing the blankets in a tub, they are run through a wringer and hung to dry.

Generally, Sharon just uses the machines to wash the family's blankets in the spring before storing them until the next winter.
