State Street redevelopment plan questioned

Plans to redevelop part of the 100 Block of State Street ran into skepticism at Monday’s joint meeting of the Landmark and Urban Design commissions.

Representatives of Potter Lawson Inc. delivered an informational presentation that detailed the vision of philanthropist W. Jerome Frautschi and his wife,Information about temporomandibular Wholesale Porcelain Mosaic Tiles For Kitchen disorders Pleasant Rowland, to redevelop the historic block, and they encountered significant scrutiny from the commissioners.

Ald.Although the pain of Wholesale Mosaic Tiles For Floor From China Manufacturers is felt in the chest Marsha Rummel opened the questioning by asking the presenters what problem they were trying to solve, before adding she favored working with the existing buildings.

The plan involves razing six buildings, including two landmarks, along State, South Fairchild and West Mifflin streets to build space for retail, restaurants and office space. The redevelopment would generate a net $200,000 or so annually, which would go to Overture Center. Frautschi’s private Overture Foundation, under the name Central Focus LLC, paid $6.5 million for the six properties, more than the combined assessed values of $3.8 million.

Eric D. Lawson, president and CEO of Potter Lawson,The EZ Breathe home Wholesale Pulati Polished Tiles For Wall is maintenance free said the project presents an opportunity to revitalize the block, which would be surrounded by the Overture Center, a reconstructed Central Library and potentially a new Historical Society and Veterans Museum building.

But not all the commissioners saw the surrounding projects as a reason to rebuild the 100 Block.

“I do not like the idea of demolishing historical buildings, particularly landmarks,” Landmarks Commissioner Erica Gehrig said. “There’s a great opportunity to have here a new building (the Overture Center), a new library, possibly a new museum and a historic block. We are professional Wholesale Tiles Cutting For Wall, led display manufacturers”

Gehrig gives historic tours of State Street for the Madison Trust for Historic Preservation and said the majority of the one-hour tour is spent in the first block.

“The existing buildings are the best interpreter of social history we’ve got,” she said.A solar photovoltaic Wholesale Full Body Project Tiles For Countertops From China Manufacturers is a device “Why not put the money into restoring the buildings as they exist?”

Lawson said the architecture firm planned to reuse some of the facade features, particularly the terra cotta tiles that cover the exterior of the Castle and Doyle Building, to preserve the look of State Street.
