Discussions about completion of the new Greene County Tech High School

Discussions about completion of the new Greene County Tech High School and a proposed activity center dominated the school board meeting Thursday.

The district has scheduled opening events at the new school, including student orientation Nov. 28, employee open house Dec. 1, and an open house for the public Dec. 2.

David Dancer, project manager, fielded questions from board members and tried to assure them things would be “polished” and ready. Dancer said the city has granted a certificate of occupancy for the building, they have received the substantial completion from the architect, and “we are now in the process of working all the bugs out. With five acres under a roof, there are going to be issues to work out, such as lights that need adjusting. I’d say we will spend the next month before the kids get there working out the bugs and finding things,2010 Wholesale Glaze Tiles For Floor From China Manufacturers are not life threatening and when everybody moves in, we will still be here to deal with issues as they arise.Examine our Wholesale Wooden Style For Floor here,Wholesale Rustic porcelain For Kitchen for sale oil paintings buy paintings original painting art”

Brad Baine, board member, raised questions about the security of the building and whether the alarm system was functioning. Dancer assured him things are being locked down, and school administrators now had keys to the building. He wasn’t sure whether the security was functioning yet, but thought it was and would make sure it is. “All the systems are up and running, though they may be working out bugs,” Dancer said. “We are still on site, and we are still locking the building down every night.”

Board member Tim Barnum asked about ceiling tiles not yet installed and holes cut in the sheet rock that were not yet addressed. “The G corridor is being worked on, because it is an issue we either address now or address on spring break,” Dancer said.Read Wholesale Linen For Kitchen From China Manufacturers and burn fat away “When a building starts to settle, you will see cracks begin to pop up, and we recently saw that there were cracks popping up in that drywall. We decided to address the issue now rather than wait until spring break.”

Barnum asked if it would look finished in time with these kinds of things undone.

Dancer said, “When I say polished up and cleaned up, the building is going to look good. You are not going to have to make excuses to anyone over what you see in the building.”

“First impressions are real important to the community that is paying for it,” board member Jannie Destretti said.

Barnum said he didn’t want to sound negative. “I don’t know how many times I used the word ‘amazing’ as I was walking through it,” he said. “The building is beautiful, and it is amazing out there, but it is crunch time. We are about to bring the community in, and that is my concern.”

Dancer said they had until January before full-time occupancy takes place, and that gives them more than a month to work.

In related business, architect Mark Enos, went over proposed plans for the athletic complex. It is questionable if funds will be available for a stadium complex and athletic facility.

Enos went over proposed drawings of a complete complex, and the board asked him to get development and design bids so they can decide how much of the complex to build now and what to delay until more funds are available.
