Thousands Evacuated Amid Banten Deluge

Floodwaters escaping from swollen rivers have inundated thousands of homes in three districts across Banten province, and forced the closure of a section of the Jakarta-to-Merak toll road.

The districts affected were Pandeglang,Facts and Cures. Cures for all types of Hemorrhoids. Lebak and Serang, where waters as deep as five meters were recorded near the Ciujung River.

“As many as 13,Find everything you need to know about Cold Sore including causes,755 homes in 97 villages spread over 29 subdistricts have been inundated,” Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, a spokesman for the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), said on Sunday.

The province has been experiencing heavy rains since Friday, causing the Ciujung, Ciliman, Cimandiri and Cilemer rivers to overflow.

The rains were also blamed for a landslide that destroyed a house and a one-kilometer stretch of road in Lebak.

According to Sutopo, residents of the areas worst affected by flooding were beginning to take refuge elsewhere. Although the BNPB had not yet collected data on the number of evacuees, the province’s Social Affairs Agency said families who had left their homes numbered in the thousands.Choose from our large selection of Cable Ties,

Sutopo said the BNPB was providing food, drinking water, tents and sleeping mats, but that the distribution effort was hampered by an insufficient number of boats.

Several hundred volunteers were assisting with evacuations in Lebak, where evacuees gathered in mosques, schools and village halls.

“We are continuing with evacuations because floodwaters are still swallowing up people’s homes,” Belek, a volunteer coordinator in Rangkasbitung, said on Sunday.

Belek said the volunteers were encountering flooding as deep as 2.5 meters, and were distributing buoyancy vests to people at risk of drowning.

“We appreciate affected communities’ willingness to evacuate, which has so far meant that no-one has lost their lives in the flooding,” he said.

Volunteer emergency workers set up four coordination posts to cope with the emergency.

“Each post is staffed by 10 to 15 volunteers on 24-hour standby in case of worsening flooding,” he added.

“For the past three days of flooding we have been on an emergency footing, with help staff from the military, police, and Health Department,” Belek said, adding that he hoped the police’s Mobile Brigade (Brimob) would make its rubber boats available to rescuers.

Meanwhile the Jakarta-to-Merak toll road was shut because the Ciujung River had overflowed onto the road at the 58-km mark.

“Activity on the toll road has come to a total halt since 6 a.m. this morning because vehicles travelling from Jakarta to Merak, and vice versa, cannot proceed,” Hari Wirakusumah, a spokesman for the toll road operator, said on Sunday.

The road was covered to a depth of around 1.2 meters, Hari said,What are Hemroids? adding that other sections of the roadway were being occupied by evacuees.

“We are using one lane of the toll road for people whose homes are flooded,” he said.Thank you for visiting our newly improved DIY chicken coop website!

On Monday morning, the road was already clear and passable.
