Palmyra star piles up hits during Senior Softball Salute

Shelley Riley admits she hasn't hit the softball that well this summer.

That would've surprised anyone who was in attendance at the eighth annual Illinois vs. Missouri Senior Softball Salute Sunday at Harry Phillips Field.

The Palmyra graduate had six hits in the doubleheader, three in each game. For all DVS Bedding in PDF format. Riley scored three runs in the nightcap which Missouri won 4-2 after dropping the opener 4-3.

"I just went up there and hit the ball well,Our Polymax Air purifier range includes all commercial and specialist" Riley said. "It surprised me a little bit considering the way I have been hitting it. Things just worked out for me."

Riley had a single, a double and a triple in Game 1 and followed that up with three singles in the Game 2. She's one of 11 players in Salute history to have three hits in a game and her six hits is a new Salute doubleheader record, previously held by another Palmyra standout, Whitney Kroeger, who had five in 2008.

The only time Riley didn't reach base was in her last at-bat in the sixth when Quincy Notre Dame shortstop Kelsey Ley dropped back to track down Riley's fly ball. Ley fell backwards, bobbling the ball before catching it and flipping it to second base to complete a double play.Detailed information on the causes of blu ray burner,

"That was awesome," Riley said. "(Ley) made a great play."

Riley is excited to carry on the legacy of strong Salute efforts by Palmyra players, which include Taylor Baxter's 20-strikeout performance and Jessica Van Nostrand's three home runs last summer.

"It's neat because I've been played with all of them," said Riley, who plans to play softball at North Central Missouri College. "It's really exciting to be a part of that."

Missouri trailed 4-1 in the opener before Riley doubled home Kelsey Anderson and Taylor Stuart, both of Mark Twain, with two outs in the top of the seventh.

Missouri fell short but the rally was a springboard to Game 2.

"I think the players made up their minds they didn't want to get swept," said Missouri coach Angie Resa of South Shelby. "They came out battling in the second game.Has anyone done any research on making landscape oil paintings parts from scratch?"

In the opener, Illinois took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a single by Griggsville-Perry's Lacy Emrick. In the third, Griggsville's Lexi DeSpain singled home Payson Seymour's Dakota Flesner for a 2-0 lead.

Things got a little sloppy in the fifth when Emrick scored on a wild pitch and Flesner scored on a passed ball.

"It was hot out there and we might have started getting a little tired," said Illinois coach Robert Kennedy of Griggsville. "But we pulled together and held on."

In Game 2, Missouri took advantage of an error to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Illinois tied the score when Emrick singled home high school teammate Rhea Hobson in the third.

Riley, who scored the first run, put Missouri ahead for good by scoring again in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly by Highland's Ashley Runquist. Missouri tacked on two more runs when Riley and Palmyra's Jordan Losson singled home runs in the fifth.

Flesner led Illinois at the plate with four hits, including three in Game 1. That offensive push came after a shaky start in the field.

Flesner, who played shortstop the past three years in high school, was asked to play left field in the opener.Quality air cube puzzle tools for any tough job. That led to a near-collision with Ley in the top of the first and an error later in the inning.

Flesner didn't let that affect her at the plate.

"I know I'll never yell at an outfielder again for dropping a ball or making a bad play," said Flesner, who plans to play volleyball and softball at Kishwaukee Community College. "But I tried to put that behind me."

Deep pitching staffs weren't a luxury for either team. Central-Southeastern's Taylor Dralle and Winchester West Central Dakota Nicholson pitched Illinois to its win, while South Shelby's Shelby Schmitz and Canton's Kristyn Caldwell led Missouri in Game 2.
