This year, the members of the five local chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution have transformed the carriage house into a snow-capped Santa's workshop, complete with the jolly man himself visiting with children on Saturday. The building recently received new ceramic tile flooring, courtesy of the City of Mobile.
Members of the recently formed Children of the American Revolution Chapter will assist the younger visitors in making decorations to bring home. There will also be cookies and punch for the children in the carriage house.
"It's to give the children a little something special for them," said event co-chairwoman Susan Tomlinson.
Santa will also be available for photos; cameras are encouraged and Tomlinson promises a short wait to visit with the man in red. The Christmas tree in the carriage house has a patriotic theme, showcasing one-of-a-kind military ornaments.
The very popular bake sale will also be housed in the carriage house both days. It features candied grapefruit peel, cheese straws, pumpkin rolls, soup mixes and other homemade goodies, perfect for teacher gifts or anyone else who needs to be remembered at the holidays. Visitors can also purchase a chance to walk away one of several festive goodie baskets.

Refreshments will be served in the formal dining room, including small cookies, cheese straws, candied nuts and other confections, as well as spiced tea. The gift shop will be open, showcasing many new items.

Thanks to a DAR member's husband and a group of artistic volunteers from the University of South Alabama, this year the faade of the house boasts specially-designed live greenery draping down each iron post.
